Should FOSS Community Respect Microsoft?

I would be curious to know how others feel about the recent call by Linux Foundation's Zemlin to show Microsoft some respect. I feel very strongly that they are the ones who need to show respect. Then, and only then, should we offer any in return.

respect a rampaging bully?

Sure, we should give them the same respect we give any enemy bent on our destruction; the type of respect based on caution and watchfulness. But respect them as colleagues, equals, or a company worthy of respect? No effing way. When they earn respect, then they can have it.

As I posted to your article,

As I posted to your article, I agree with you completely. Microsoft needs to use its considerable might to be a force for good as IBM has been doing regarding free software, and they will need to establish a track record of some duration before most of us will consider them comrades and worthy of respect. As it is now, anything they do to play nice with us is immediately suspect and scrutinized for ulterior motives.
