A person sure gets tired of fighting the same stupid battles over and over:
'Linux Journal: the Last Idiot's Club'

Wouldn't it be a refreshing change of pace to see a tech publication that actually respects its readers, instead of acting like they're all sniggling 13-year olds?
Well, I agree that LJ's
Well, I agree that LJ's attitude is problematic. I promise to do what I can to help change that. I may have little effect elsewhere, but I can definitely make sure women are treated respectfully here.

The mystery of the pig lingers.....
It's not just this one ad. (Which ran before, in 2000, and created a storm of criticism. LJ said they were sorry and would never run it again. Haha.) Linux Journal has a long history of cruddy attitudes towards women. I was a subscriber for many years. Got tired of them contantly running ads that made women look like helpless moronic twits. I wrote to them a few times complaining about these ads. Most times I got no reply; the few times I did it was pretty much "yeah whatever, we don't care what you think."
For many years seeing a woman author in the hallowed LJ pages was as rare as seeing Halley's Comet. The mind-bogglingly awful Gnull and Voyd column lasted only a couple of months, thankfully. But the horrible Mango Parfait was a staple of their sister publication, Tux Magazine.
Feh on Linux Journal!
Well, you're looking at it.
Well, you're looking at it. It's called Blue GNU. In fact, I am antcipating putergirl's first article in the near future. So, welcome to the gnu gearhead club! ;-)
The ad sucked in so many different ways, it just isn't funny. It's simply shallow. They got all excited about the catchiness of the phrase and forgot about things like decency and respect in the process. It's funny what a dollar or two will do to people.
